claudiatammen > August 18: Red Red Roses
Dear community,
I'm finding that I cannot keep up with the daily challenge. It seems a good time to take a break. This rose is for all of you who took time to provide feedback, encouraging words, and constructive ideas. And all the best to everyone in continuing community and great photography! I'll be back.....
claudiatammen > August 13: Daily Dose
Due to some health issues that I face, I take several medications & supplements daily. I decided to try and create some images about my health and this is the first. I noticed afterward that I had arranged the pills in a serpentine line - somewhat like the snake wound around a staff that is the symbol for medicine. Snakes shed their skin and are in a sense "reborn"....

My life has changed due to health challenges. I have had to learn to live much more simply and cut way down on activities (like work). I must focus on the basics - how to provide good nutrition and fuel for my body, get adequate rest, and appropriate exercise to maintain and maybe even improve my health. Oh yes, and take lots of meds. It has been a radical change for a once busy and active person. I've become more meditative and quiet. Photography is a good creative outlet.
claudiatammen > August 11: Soft sunset in OC
It was WARM standing in this field, and I didn't realize that I was also standing in a trail of red ants until I got bit - ouch! A photographer needs to be aware of his/her surroundings. I am also getting brave and trying out simple frame techniques. Anyone know of any plug-ins with good frames?

Also, thanks for your responses to my last post of Saddleback Mtn.
claudiatammen > August 8: Moon over Saddleback Mountain
"Santiago is the highpoint of Orange County in Southern California. It lies along the crest of the Santa Ana Mountains, a coastal chain located southeast of the greater Los Angeles area. It is often referred to as Saddleback which refers to the skyline profile formed between it and nearby Modjeska Peak. The Holy Jim Trail is probably the most scenic route to the top. The terrain is mostly chaparral, typical of the southern California mountain landscape, with stands of oaks and sycamores found in the deeper canyons with seasonal water flow.
The top of the peak is crowned with one of the densest arrays of telecommunications equipment found anywhere in the state - there is no single location for sweeping 360 views. By walking around the various installations in about a quarter mile radius, one can see views in all directions covering five counties and a large portion of the southern California area - from Catalina and San Clemente Islands out in the Pacific Ocean, south to Mt. Palomar, east to San Jacinto Peak and the desert environ, north to the San Bernadino Mountains and San Gorgonio, and of course the ever-popular hundreds upon hundreds of square miles of urban sprawl all around."

A bit of So. Cal. geography. I was out the other night on my monthly moon shoot, but came away with not many shots I liked. This landscape shot shows the recognizable "saddleback" shape in the center area of the farthest mountains. I also played around with highlights and shadows in CS4 and liked this look - almost like an old postcard.
claudiatammen > August 7: Bromeliad Blooms
Lo and behold this cactus-looking plant in my garden bloomed! I had never seen this flower before, and still can't quite believe it - colorful petals and seed pods. It is something to behold. Thanks to Brian, my stepbrother, who gave it to me and didn't tell me what it was.
claudiatammen > Aug. 4: Cone Flower
I was inspired by Art Hill's image yesterday of the cone flower and bee to post this shot. Mine does not have the clarity of focus that his does, but I like the colors and softness.
claudiatammen > Aug. 3: Heart Labyrinth at Ghost Ranch, NM
There is a spirituality center called Casa del Sol, available for group and individual retreats. It is the base of the Companions of Casa del Sol, a network of men & women throughout the country who are committed to being 'a community of the Living Presence, seeking the oneness of the human soul and the healing of creation'. I enjoyed being at Casa del Sol for several days during my trip.
claudiatammen > Aug. 2: Monday evening rainbow
After a thunderstorm in the afternoon, including hail and a flooded arroyo, this rainbow appeared at 7:00pm. Another thing to love about New Mexico. If anyone is interested in getting further info about Ghost Ranch conference and retreat center the website is: www. ghostranch.org.
claudiatammen > August 1: Hummingbird duet
I found these hummers at a friends' home in New Mexico. They have several in their back and front yard, and I spent a good couple of hours shooting them. I like this shot because of their similar pose and the fact that I actually got some color.
