claudiatammen > August 8: Moon over Saddleback Mountain
"Santiago is the highpoint of Orange County in Southern California. It lies along the crest of the Santa Ana Mountains, a coastal chain located southeast of the greater Los Angeles area. It is often referred to as Saddleback which refers to the skyline profile formed between it and nearby Modjeska Peak. The Holy Jim Trail is probably the most scenic route to the top. The terrain is mostly chaparral, typical of the southern California mountain landscape, with stands of oaks and sycamores found in the deeper canyons with seasonal water flow.
The top of the peak is crowned with one of the densest arrays of telecommunications equipment found anywhere in the state - there is no single location for sweeping 360 views. By walking around the various installations in about a quarter mile radius, one can see views in all directions covering five counties and a large portion of the southern California area - from Catalina and San Clemente Islands out in the Pacific Ocean, south to Mt. Palomar, east to San Jacinto Peak and the desert environ, north to the San Bernadino Mountains and San Gorgonio, and of course the ever-popular hundreds upon hundreds of square miles of urban sprawl all around."

A bit of So. Cal. geography. I was out the other night on my monthly moon shoot, but came away with not many shots I liked. This landscape shot shows the recognizable "saddleback" shape in the center area of the farthest mountains. I also played around with highlights and shadows in CS4 and liked this look - almost like an old postcard.
claudiatammen > May 2: Picture yourself here
I have been playing with my new tripod all day, but didn't get anything I liked - need more practice I guess. So, this is from several weeks ago when I went on a wildflower hike at Laguna Coast Wilderness Park.
claudiatammen > I submitted this photo in my B&W class last night. Our assignment was to photograph people with different skin tones. These are two buddies from my yoga class who agreed to help. Of the photos I submitted, the class liked this one the best. It's challenging for me because I like working in color so much, but am learning a lot and starting to the appreciate B&W image.
claudiatammen > August 1: Hummingbird duet
I found these hummers at a friends' home in New Mexico. They have several in their back and front yard, and I spent a good couple of hours shooting them. I like this shot because of their similar pose and the fact that I actually got some color.
claudiatammen > Yellow Hills
This image was made on a walk yesterday in Modjeska Canyon. It is the time to capture wildflowers. It was close to sunset and the light was just right.
claudiatammen > July 26: Wetlands Reflection
This was taken the first evening I arrived at Ghost Ranch. I waited (mostly in vain) for the moon to rise, but got some nice reflection shots at the wetlands waste water reclamation project, which is also a great habitat for birds (none of which you see here).
claudiatammen > goofy & modest, braces & flounce: Being Thirteen
My thirteen-year-old neice, Brianna, spent the night this weekend. We went to the "mall" and tried to see how many free samples we could get. We also rode a ferris wheel. She tried on all kinds of clothes & I took pictures. I like this one - I think it captures that teenage hesitance and awkwardness. She wants to grow up, and yet she doesn't.
claudiatammen > Aug. 2: Monday evening rainbow
After a thunderstorm in the afternoon, including hail and a flooded arroyo, this rainbow appeared at 7:00pm. Another thing to love about New Mexico. If anyone is interested in getting further info about Ghost Ranch conference and retreat center the website is: www. ghostranch.org.
claudiatammen > June 1: Flowing Lines - Oak Burl
On my walk yesterday evening I finally photographed this oak burl. The branches were trimmed and the tree looks pretty forlorn standing by the side of the road. But the pattern inside the burl is beautiful - there are a lot of years recorded here. It almost looks like a face - a man with a full beard and laughing eyes!
